ClimbingFelling

Weaver climber pads with a cushion wrap and Velcro closure spread spur pressure over more of your lower leg. They are an inexpensive upgrade for climbers whose shins take a beating on long removal days.

Why pads matter on spurs

Spurs transfer your weight through the shank into the strap and pad around your calf. Thin or worn pads concentrate that load, and after a full day of removals you feel it in your shins. A thicker, cushioned wrap pad spreads the pressure and keeps the spur from shifting on your leg.

Velcro wrap pads go on fast and adjust easily, which helps if you climb in different boots or pants. Check that the pads suit your spur's straps and rings before ordering. Browse more climber pads for other styles.

Pads also help the spur sit in the same place on your leg every time you strap in. A spur that rotates or slides under load is both tiring and less secure on the stem, especially when you cut in at an angle.

Care and replacement

Brush out bark and sawdust after each use and let pads dry if they get wet. Replace pads when the cushion compresses flat, the Velcro stops holding, or the cover tears.

Pads are part of your spur system, so inspect them with your straps and gaffs before every climb. Spur only on removals and follow ANSI Z133 and the manufacturer's instructions.

If your spurs still hurt with fresh pads, check the fit of the shanks to your leg length and the strap tension before assuming you need different spurs.
