On jobs where you go up and down several trees, buckles slow you down. The hook-and-loop closure on these Big Buck pads lets you snug the upper in one move and pull it off just as fast. The wide padded shell still wraps the calf to reduce pressure points and keep the spur aligned.

That speed is useful on lot clearing and storm work, where you might top and drop several trees in a morning. It also makes it easier to loosen the upper during a break on the ground, which helps circulation on long days on spikes.

Keep the closure clean

Hook-and-loop loses grip when packed with sawdust, bark and pitch. Brush it clean regularly and replace pads when the closure no longer holds firmly. Check fit with your climber model before ordering. Inspect pads and straps before every climb, follow the manufacturer's instructions and ANSI Z133, and be trained before climbing on spurs.

If you climb in wet, muddy or icy conditions often, consider the buckle version, which is less affected by debris. Many climbers keep one of each and choose by the job. Store spurs with gaff guards on so points cannot catch the closure.
