Buying guide

Choosing pads

Pads come in different widths and stiffness. Wider pads spread pressure better, while stiffer pads with metal supports keep the spur from rolling on your leg. Make sure the pad fits your spur model, attaches securely, and works with your strap setup. Replace pads when the foam is crushed or the straps wear, and inspect everything before each climb.

Fit and replacement

Buckingham Big Buck pads are a popular upgrade for many spurs, with versions that use buckles or hook-and-loop closures. Replacement pads for Gecko climbers keep those spurs comfortable. When fitting new pads, adjust the straps so the spur sits snug against your leg without cutting off circulation. Worn pads let the spur shift and rub, which is both uncomfortable and less stable on the stem.

Keep pads clean and dry after use. Sap and mud stiffen padding and wear out straps, and wet pads can rub skin raw on long days. Replace both pads at the same time so your legs stay balanced.

Common questions

Do climber pads fit all spurs?

No. Pads are often made for specific spur models. Check compatibility before buying.
