The Reecoil Big Boss chainsaw lanyard is a retractable saw tether that reels the saw back to your hip instead of using a stretchy bungee. It is the larger version in the Reecoil line, meant for climbers carrying heavier saws aloft.

Reel versus bungee

A bungee lanyard pulls harder the farther you stretch it, which you feel on a long reach. A retractable reel keeps tension more even and stores the line inside the housing, so there is less loose cord hanging around your legs and lanyard. Many climbers like that it keeps the saw tucked in when moving around the canopy.

The Big Boss is aimed at bigger saws. Check the manufacturer's weight rating against your saw with bar, chain, and a full tank before you choose it, and use the lighter model for small top-handles.

Setup and care

Mount the reel on a tool attachment point on your saddle, not on a life-support ring. Keep sawdust and sap out of the housing, check the line for cuts, and retire it if the retraction gets weak or jerky. You can compare bungee and coiled chainsaw lanyards in this section.

Retractable lanyards also help on removals where you are moving around the stem a lot. The saw stays tight to your side as you reposition your flipline, and there is no loose loop to catch on your spurs or lanyard adjuster.

Mount it where the reel will not bang into your other gear or your hitch.

A saw lanyard is not life support and is never a tie-in point. Run your saw to the manufacturer's instructions, wear your PPE, and follow ANSI Z133 for aloft saw work.
