This chainsaw strap with a ring adds a clean attachment point to a saw so you can clip a saw lanyard to it. It is handy on saws without a built-in tie ring, or where you want the lanyard to hang from a better spot.

Where it fits

Most top-handle saws have a tie ring at the rear, but rear-handle saws and some pole saws do not. A strap with a ring gives you a dedicated point to clip a lanyard so the saw can be carried aloft or hoisted safely.

Fit the strap snug around a solid part of the saw, clear of the chain, controls and the muffler. Then clip a saw lanyard to the ring. More options are in chainsaw lanyards.

A strap is also handy when hoisting a larger saw to a climber on a tag line. The ring gives the ground worker a clear place to clip, and the climber can transfer the saw to a lanyard without fumbling.

Checks before climbing

Pull test the strap with the saw before you leave the ground. It should not slide, twist into the controls or rest against hot parts.

Inspect the strap for cuts and heat damage and the ring for wear. This strap is for tools only and must never be used as part of a climbing system.

Replace the strap if it has been near fuel spills, solvent or excessive heat, since these can weaken webbing without obvious signs. Keep the ring and strap clean of sap and sawdust so you can spot wear during each inspection.
