A fresh flat file for your guide bar dresser.
This replacement file for guide bar dresser tools restores the cutting edge on the tool you use to square up chainsaw bar rails. A sharp file cuts burrs off cleanly instead of skating over them.
Bar dresser files dull just like chain files. When the file skates over the rail instead of biting, or it takes many strokes to remove a burr, it is time for a new one. A dull file can also round over the rail edges you are trying to square.
Check that the file matches your dresser before ordering. Browse our wrenches and files section for bar dressers and other sharpening tools.
Keep a spare file in the sharpening kit so a dull one never stops you from dressing the bar at a chain change. Dressing only takes a few minutes, and it adds a lot of life to both the bar and the chain.
Dress the rails at each chain change, flip the bar so it wears evenly, and clean the groove and oil holes. Replace the bar when the rails are badly worn or the groove is too shallow to hold the chain upright.
Wear gloves when handling the bar and chain, and keep the file clean with a file card so it keeps cutting.
Store the dresser and spare files in a dry case to keep them from rusting, and label which file fits which tool if you run more than one dresser.
