Climbing

Marlow Dyneema throwline is a 1.8 mm line on a 50 m spool for setting climbing and rigging lines in the canopy. Dyneema is light and slick, so the line runs smoothly over branches and through crotches.

Why Dyneema throwline

Throwline should be light, slick, and strong enough to pull up your climbing line. Dyneema is very strong for its weight and has a low-friction surface, so the line runs over bark and through tight crotches easily.

At 50 m, there's enough line for tall trees. Pair it with a throw weight that suits your tree and a cube or bag to keep it tangle-free. See more throw line.

Marlow is a British rope maker that supplies arborist, sailing, and industrial ropes, and its throwline is a popular choice for climbers who want something light and fast.

Throwing and care

Flake the line into a cube or bag so it feeds without tangling. Check the area before you throw and make sure no one is in the path of the weight.

Throwline is not life-support rope. Use it only to set lines. Replace it when it is frayed or damaged, and keep it clean so it runs smoothly.

A thin, slick line can be hard to grip, especially with gloves. Many climbers prefer to pull the climbing line up with bare hands, then put gloves back on. When pulling up a heavy line, a thin throwline can cut into bare hands, so pull steadily rather than jerking. Store the line in a bag or cube and replace it when the cover frays.
