Climbing

The Notch throwline pop box is a collapsible storage cube for throw line. It pops open on the ground so your line feeds out cleanly on each throw, then folds flat for the gear bag when the climbing line is set.

Why use a throw line cube

Throw line tangles easily. Left in a pile on the ground it catches on twigs, picks up grit and knots itself just as the bag is going up. A pop box gives the line a clean home. Stuff it in loosely after each throw and it pays out smoothly the next time.

The box also keeps line off wet grass and out of sawdust, which helps it run through the canopy and last longer. See our throw weights and line for line, bags and kits.

A cube also speeds up repeat throws. When the bag misses the target crotch, you pull the line back into the box and throw again without stopping to untangle a bird's nest at your feet. Over a day of setting lines in several trees, that time adds up, and the climber gets in the tree faster.

Packing and care

Feed the line in loosely by hand rather than coiling it, so it comes out without twists. Keep the end tied to a loop in the box so the whole line cannot fly out with the bag. Shake out bark and leaves at the end of the day and let it dry if it gets wet.

Stand clear of the throw path and look out for the bag on the way down. Never throw near power lines.
