Climbing

A throw line bag stores your line loose and flaked so it feeds out cleanly on every throw. It keeps sawdust and dirt off the line and gives you a place to clip your throw weight between attempts.

Why storage matters

Throw line is thin and slick. Left in a pile on the ground it picks up twigs and grass and tangles the moment you throw. Feeding it into a throw line cube or bag keeps it loose and flaked, so it pays out cleanly and you spend your time setting lines instead of untangling them.

Most climbers keep one throw line and bag together as a set. See throw weights and line for line to match.

Arborist throw bags and cubes also make it easy to keep two lines ready at once, which helps when you are isolating a crotch or setting a second line for rigging. Feed each line into its own bag so they never cross.

Using and caring for it

Feed line into the bag loosely by hand; do not coil it. Open the bag fully before you throw and stand it upright where you will not step in it. Shake out debris after each job and let it dry if wet. Throw lines and weights are used to set climbing lines, not to hold a climber. Always inspect the climbing line and anchor you install, follow ANSI Z133 and the manufacturer's instructions, and keep the drop zone clear when throwing.
