Climbing

This starter throw line kit bundles the basics for setting a climbing line: arborist throw line, throw weights and a way to store the line so it pays out clean. It is the easy way to get a working setup without piecing it together.

What a throw line kit does

Setting your climbing line starts on the ground. You throw a small weight attached to thin, slick line over the union you want, then use that line to pull your climbing rope into place. A good throw line arborist setup saves you dozens of wasted throws a day.

This kit gives you matched line and weights plus storage, so the line flakes out without knots. When you need more reach, look at the Big Shot launcher.

Keeping the parts together matters on the job. When your line, weights and storage live in one bag, you can grab the kit, set a line and get climbing without hunting through the truck for a missing weight or a tangled hank.

Practice and safety

Practice an underhand two-hand throw on easy limbs before you need it on a job. Flake the line before each throw and keep your feet off it. Keep people clear of the landing zone and wear a helmet. Throw lines and weights are used to set climbing lines, not to hold a climber. Always inspect the climbing line and anchor you install, follow ANSI Z133 and the manufacturer's instructions, and keep the drop zone clear when throwing.
