Petzl Jet Throw Weight

The Petzl Jet throw weight is a streamlined throw bag shaped to slip through leaves and over unions with less snagging. It comes in several weights so you can match it to your throw line and the tree.

Choosing throw weights

Lighter throw weights travel farther on a hand throw and are easier to pull back. Heavier ones punch through foliage and drop better, and they help pull line down through tight forks. Many climbers carry two throw weights, one light and one heavier, so they can switch without retying.

The Jet's streamlined shape helps it pass between twigs and leaves without hanging up, and the tough cover stands up to repeated throws and bark contact. When choosing among throw weights, also think about the throw line you use: thin slick lines pair well with lighter weights for long throws.

Throw safely

Keep people, vehicles and windows out of the landing zone and call out before each throw. Wear a helmet when throwing under the canopy. Inspect the cover and attachment point for wear. Throw lines and weights are used to set climbing lines, not to hold a climber. Always inspect the climbing line and anchor you install, follow ANSI Z133 and the manufacturer's instructions, and keep the drop zone clear when throwing.
