Two 5/32 in. round files for small-pitch chain on top-handle and light saws.
The Husqvarna 5/32 chainsaw file is a 4.0mm round file for sharpening small-pitch chain, including many 3/8 low-profile chains used on top-handle saws and light pruning saws. Two files come in the pack.
Most climbers' top-handle saws run small-pitch chain, and a lot of that chain calls for a 5/32 inch file. A top-handle with dull chain is a real problem aloft: you push harder, the saw bucks, and one-handed control gets worse. Keeping a fresh 5/32 file in the climbing kit means a quick touch-up on the lunch break. Many climbers keep the second file in the truck so a worn one never holds up the job.
Always confirm the file size printed on the chain box or in the saw manual, since some small chains call for a different diameter.
Use a file handle and guide to hold angle and depth, file from the inside of each cutter out, and keep strokes even so the cutters stay matched. After a few sharpenings, check and lower the depth gauges with a flat file and gauge tool. A round file that skates instead of cutting is worn out and should be replaced. Brush filings and sawdust off the file with a file card or stiff brush so the teeth keep cutting, and store files where they will not rattle against other steel.
Clamp the bar so the saw cannot move, and wear gloves. See our wrenches and files for handles, guides, and depth gauge files.

Many 3/8 low-profile and 1/4 in. pitch chains do. Check the file size on your chain box or in the saw manual.
It depends on how often you file and how hard you press. Replace it when it stops cutting cleanly.
