The DMM Keanu pip pin is the spare locking pin for DMM's Keanu trolley pulley. Pip pins are small and easy to drop out of the tree, and a trolley without its pin is a trolley you cannot use.

Why carry a spare pip pin

The Keanu is built to ride a tensioned line, and the pip pin is part of what lets you load it onto the line and close it securely. Pins get dropped in leaf litter, left in a pocket, or bent when the trolley is thrown in the truck. A spare in the gear bag costs little and keeps a speedline job moving.

Use only the DMM pin made for the Keanu. A pin from another device may look similar but differ in diameter, length or locking action. Other small hardware is in our rings and other hardware section.

Keep the spare pin somewhere you will find it, such as a small zip pocket in the gear bag or clipped in a labelled pouch with other Keanu bits. A pin rattling loose in the truck bed is as good as lost, and the time to discover it is missing is not when the speedline is already set and tensioned.

Check it before you load

Before each use, confirm the pin goes fully home, the locking balls engage, and it cannot be pulled out without pressing the button. Replace a pin that is bent, sticky, corroded, or slow to lock. Keep it clean of sap and grit, which can stop the balls seating.

Speedlining and other tensioned-line work put real loads on hardware. Follow DMM's instructions for the Keanu and ANSI Z133, and make sure the crew is trained in tensioned-line rigging before using it.

If the pin was lost while the trolley was on a line, check the side plates and sheave too before putting it back in service.
