A heavy 20 oz throw bag for setting lines in big, tall or thick canopies.
The Buckingham 20 oz throw weight is a heavy throw bag for arborists who need to set a line high in big trees or through dense canopy. The extra weight helps it drop back to the ground through twigs and over rough bark that would hang up a lighter bag.
Most climbers carry a range of throw weights. Light bags are easier to throw high and accurately, but they can hang up in small branches or fail to pull line back down over a rough union. A 20 oz throw weight is the one you grab when the line refuses to come down, in tall conifers or big oaks with a lot of small wood.
The extra weight also makes it easier to isolate a union by shaking the line, and works well with a big shot slingshot when you need serious height.
If you work in big hardwoods or tall pines, a heavy bag in your kit saves a lot of time and frustration.
A 20 oz bag hurts if it hits someone. Clear the area under the tree, call out before each throw, and keep everyone back from where it can fall. Watch out for power lines, and never throw near energized conductors.
Check the bag and ring for wear and replace a bag with torn fabric. See throw lines and more weights in our throw weight and line section.
Store throw weights and line together in a bag or cube so they stay tangle free and ready to use.
Keep the line flaked loosely before each throw so it pays out without snagging the bag.

It can be thrown by hand, but many climbers use it with a big shot. Lighter bags are easier for accurate hand throws.
Use a throw line strong enough for the weight and your launcher. Check the line maker's guidance.
