ClimbingRigging

FTC Stiffline is a 1.6 mm throw line with a stiff construction that resists tangles and slides over bark and through crotches with little drag. The stiffness helps the line feed cleanly from a cube and keeps it from snagging on twigs as you pull it through.

Why a stiff throw line helps

Soft throw line has a habit of knotting into itself the moment you look away. A stiffer line resists that, pays out more cleanly from a cube or bag, and is less likely to wrap around twigs when you are pulling it back down. The thin diameter keeps drag low so a light throw weight can still get height.

Pair it with a throw weight that suits your trees. Other lines and kits are in our throw line section.

Stiff line is also easier to manipulate once it is in the tree. When you need to move it to a different union, flipping or snapping the line along the limb works better with a line that holds its shape. Many climbers find that alone saves several re-throws on a busy day.

Use and care

Feed the line into a storage cube or bag after each use rather than coiling it. Check the drop zone is clear before each throw, and keep throws well away from power lines in line with ANSI Z133 approach distances.

Inspect the line for flat spots, glazing, and nicks, and cut out damage or replace it. Throw line is only for pulling a climbing line or rigging line into place. Never climb on it or use it to hold a load.
