ClimbingPro grade

The treeMOTION evo back pad is the padded section that carries your lower back in the work position on Teufelberger's evo saddle. After a few seasons the padding packs down and the cover wears through, and a new pad brings back the support that made the saddle comfortable.

What a worn back pad costs you

A flattened back pad does not usually make a saddle unsafe, but it makes long days harder. You sit back to make a cut, the pad no longer spreads the load, and pressure shifts to the waist belt edges and your hips. Over a week of pruning or a big removal, that adds up to sore backs and shorter climbs.

Replacing the pad is a straightforward way to keep a good evo in service. Make sure it is the evo version; earlier treeMOTION models used different pads. For leg straps, bridges, and other wear items, see our saddle parts.

Climbers who spend long hours in the work position, such as on big pruning jobs or crane removals where you wait on picks, notice the difference most. A fresh pad brings back the support the saddle had when it was new.

Fitting and checking the saddle

Install the pad following Teufelberger's instructions so that nothing load-bearing is rerouted or left twisted. If the pad's attachment touches any part of the life-support system, have a competent person confirm the saddle is correctly assembled before you climb on it.

Use the swap as a full inspection. Check the bridge and rings, the stitching at every load point, the side D-rings, and the buckles. Retire any saddle or component that shows cuts, heat damage, chemical contact, or excessive wear, as ANSI Z133 and the manufacturer require.
