The Edelrid TreeRex bungee chest harness is a lightweight elastic chest harness designed for the TreeRex saddle. It holds a chest ascender upright and keeps the saddle in position, which makes stationary rope ascent smoother.

What it does

When you climb a stationary rope with a chest ascender, the ascender needs to stay upright so the rope runs cleanly. A chest harness holds it there. The bungee design flexes as you move, so it does not restrict your breathing or reach once you start working.

It also helps keep your saddle up where it belongs on long ascents.

Bungee chest harnesses are popular with climbers who move between ascent and work positioning often. They hold your gear where you need it on the way up, then flex out of the way when you start cutting or rigging.

Adjust it so it is snug but not tight, and check that it does not pull the saddle up uncomfortably.

Use and care

Set it up per Edelrid's instructions and check compatibility with your saddle. Elastic loses stretch over time, so inspect it and replace it when it sags. See other parts in saddle parts and shoulder harnesses.

Follow the saddle maker's instructions for which parts of your system are life support, and inspect everything before each climb.

They are also light enough that many climbers leave them on all day, which saves time when moving between trees on a job.

Replace it when the elastic loses stretch or the straps show wear.
