Climbing

The Petzl Sequoia shoulder strap set helps carry the weight of a loaded Sequoia saddle on your shoulders instead of your hips. It keeps the saddle from sagging when it is full of hardware and a saw.

Why add shoulder straps

A fully loaded saddle can carry several pounds of carabiners, lanyards, a handsaw, and a top-handle saw. All of that hangs from your hips, and by mid-afternoon you feel it. Shoulder straps take part of that load and stop the saddle from sliding down when you are on the ground between climbs.

They also help when walking to the tree in your saddle, and some climbers find the waist belt sits better with straps on. Browse more saddle parts in our saddle parts and shoulder harnesses.

Shoulder straps also give you a few more places to carry light items close to the chest, which keeps hardware from crowding the gear loops at your hips. Fit them snug enough to carry weight but loose enough that you can still twist and reach freely in the tree.

Comfort, not fall arrest

These straps carry gear weight. They do not turn a saddle into a full body harness for fall arrest. If you need fall arrest, for example in an aerial lift, use a harness or chest component rated and approved for that use.

Fit them according to Petzl's instructions so they do not interfere with your bridge or attachment points. Check the webbing and buckles regularly, and replace worn parts.
