Petzl SWIVEL (NFPA Rated)
A ball bearing swivel for climbing and rescue systems that keeps twists out.
- Ball bearing swivel
- NFPA rated version per the product name
- Prevents twists in rope and system
- Used in climbing, lowering and rescue setups
- Inspect for smooth rotation before use
The Petzl SWIVEL in its NFPA rated version is a ball bearing swivel used to prevent twists in climbing and rescue systems. Arborists use it between the saddle and climbing system, on SRS setups and in rescue or lowering rigs.
Where it earns its place
Twists sneak into a climbing system every time you turn. A swivel lets the attached parts spin independently, so the rope does not wind up and the hitch or device keeps working as it should.
Arborists use the SWIVEL between the bridge and climbing system, below an SRS device, or in a lowering or rescue setup where a load might spin. The ball bearing lets it turn under load.
For crews that build lowering or rescue systems, a swivel is a small part that solves a real problem. A load that spins on the end of a rope winds it up and can tangle the rest of the system. Clipping a swivel above the load lets it turn freely while the rope stays clean, which makes the whole operation more controlled. It is a small piece that is easy to carry in a rescue kit.
Use and inspection
Check that the swivel turns smoothly and that the attachment holes show no wear or deformation. Make sure carabiners on each side sit correctly and are not cross-loaded.
Retire it if rotation is rough or it shows cracks or damage. Confirm any rating you need on the product markings and Petzl's instructions. Use it under ANSI Z133 practice and after proper training. Browse more in swivels.
