Petzl Ring

The Petzl Ring is a closed aluminum ring that climbers use to build friction savers, anchors and multi-point connections. It is simple, light and smooth on rope, which makes the Petzl ring a staple in a lot of climbing kits.

Where it fits in your kit

Rings are the cleanest way to give your rope a smooth path at the anchor. Pair a small and a large Petzl Ring on a sling and you have a retrievable friction saver. Use one on a multi-point anchor to gather several slings into a single connection.

Because it is closed, it is installed when the sling or eye is built. If you need to add a ring to an existing sling, look at the Petzl Ring Open.

Because the Petzl Ring is so light, it is easy to carry a spare pair. If a saver gets stuck or damaged in the canopy, having replacements in the truck saves a trip to the shop.

Retire rings that have been dropped onto rock or concrete if you see dents or cracks.

Care

Keep rope clean so grit does not groove the aluminum. Inspect for wear, sharp edges and cracks, and retire the ring if you see any.

Anything you hang your life on must meet the applicable standard, be used per the manufacturer's instructions and ANSI Z133, and be inspected before every climb by a trained user.

Small and large rings are also handy when building adjustable anchors and simple multi-point setups. Keep spare rings separate from rigging hardware so they are not used for heavy loads beyond their rating.
