Weaver Cavern Gear Bag

Why a dedicated gear bag

Climbing gear left loose in a truck gets stepped on, soaked in bar oil and buried under brush. A gear bag keeps your saddle, rope and connectors together and protected, so you can grab one bag and go. It also makes daily inspection easier when everything comes out of the same place.

Keep chemicals, fuel and sharp tools out of the bag. A file or handsaw rattling around next to your climbing line is a good way to find a cut you did not expect.

The roomy opening makes daily inspection easier, too. Pull everything out at the end of the day, check it over and pack it back in a set order, so you know at a glance when a carabiner or hitch cord is missing.

Packing tips

Put the rope in first and the saddle on top, with carabiners and devices clipped to a gear loop so they do not end up loose at the bottom. Let everything dry before you close the bag after a wet day.

Buy a bag sized for what you actually carry. Too small and gear gets crammed in and stays damp; too big and things slide around and get lost at the bottom. If you run separate climbing and rigging kits, a bag for each keeps the two from mixing.
