ClimbingMaintenance

The Buckingham haul bag is a durable bag for carrying climbing rope, saddles and hardware from the truck to the tree. A good haul bag keeps gear clean, dry and organized, and it protects your life-support equipment from the sun, fuel and chain oil in the truck bed.

Why bag your gear

Rope and slings left loose in the truck pick up grit, fuel, bar oil and UV damage, all of which shorten their life. A Buckingham climbing bag gives everything a home, so you know what you have and it stays clean between jobs.

On site, the bag keeps gear off wet ground and sawdust while you set up.

A bag with a stiff base also keeps rope from spilling out into the truck. Rope that stays together is quicker to set up and less likely to get kinked, cut or tangled.

Packing it well

Keep rope flaked or bagged on its own, hardware in a pouch, and the saddle on top so it is not crushed. Do not store fuel, chainsaw chains or chemicals in the same bag. Air everything out after wet days. For more options, see gear bags.

Clean out sawdust and bark that collect in the bottom of the bag. They hold moisture and carry grit back into your rope and hardware. Turn the bag out every few weeks and let it dry in the shade.

Give each crew member a bag with their own gear inside. When every climber knows their kit is complete and inspected, setup on the job is faster and nothing gets borrowed and forgotten.
