ClimbingPro grade

The Rock Exotica rockO Wire Eye carabiner is a rockO auto-locker with a captive wire eye that holds an attached eye, sling or device in one spot. That helps keep the connection oriented so it does not rotate onto the gate.

Why a captive eye helps

A sling, rope eye or device can migrate around a carabiner as you move, ending up on the gate or across the minor axis. The captive eye on this rockO keeps one connection fixed at the spine end, so the carabiner stays oriented when you climb, rig a bridge or set a lanyard.

A captive eye is especially useful on lanyard ends and device attachments, where the connection is clipped and unclipped often. Keeping it fixed means one less thing to check each time you reposition.

Check Rock Exotica's instructions for what can be captured and how. Compare it with our other auto-locking carabiners.

Inspection

Check the wire eye for kinks, fraying or a loose fit, and confirm the gate locks fully. Keep it clean of sap and grit.

Treat it as life-support gear: follow the manufacturer's instructions, check it before every climb, and retire it after a hard fall, a drop onto a hard surface, or any damage you can't explain. Use it within an ANSI Z133 program and only after proper training.

Keep track of when it went into service and check it as part of your regular gear inspection. If the eye has been bent or damaged, retire the carabiner rather than trying to repair it.
