The CAMP Oval XL 3Lock carabiner is a large aluminum oval with a triple-action auto-locking gate. Its symmetrical shape keeps pulleys, rope wrenches and hitch systems sitting square, and the bigger size makes room for several items.
An oval's symmetrical shape lets a pulley or device sit in the middle of the basket instead of sliding to one side. That keeps loading even and stops pulleys from twisting, which is why ovals are a common choice for hitch climbing systems, micro pulleys and rope-wrench setups.
The XL size gives extra room for a pulley plus a hitch tender or a second connector, and it is easier to handle with gloves. The triple-action gate needs a twist and push to open, so it resists accidental opening against bark and rope.
Aluminum ovals wear where rope or pulley sideplates rub, so look for grooves or sharp edges at the ends of the basket. Many climbers keep one XL oval as the backbone of their hitch system and replace it on a schedule. Keep it out of the saw bucket and away from bar oil and fuel, which make gates sticky.
Ovals are generally rated lower than D shapes because the load sits further from the spine, so check the strength markings on the carabiner and make sure it suits your system.
Carabiners in a climbing system are life-support gear. Use only connectors rated for the purpose, follow ANSI Z133 and the maker's instructions, load them along the major axis, and inspect the gate, spring and body before each use. Compare more auto-locking carabiners.

Holding pulleys, hitch systems and devices centered, with room for multiple items.
Follow ANSI Z133, your employer's rules and the device maker's instructions. Many arborists prefer triple-action gates for life support.
