A light asymmetric D locker for devices, lanyards and bridge connections.
The Petzl Bm'D carabiner is a light, asymmetric D-shaped locking connector with an I-beam profile. Tree climbers use it to attach devices, lanyards and pulleys where a compact, strong carabiner fits best.
The asymmetric D shape keeps load near the spine and leaves a wide gate opening for clipping devices and rope eyes. Arborists use the Bm'D to attach a mechanical device to a bridge, connect a lanyard to the saddle, or pair with a pulley in a hitch system.
Many climbers keep several Bm'D carabiners on their saddle for different jobs, using color or tape to tell them apart. Keeping your system consistent makes it easier to spot a problem during a pre-climb check.
Petzl offers the Bm'D with different locking gates, including auto-locking versions. Check the gate on the version you choose and compare with our other auto-locking carabiners.
Make sure the gate closes and locks on its own before every climb. Look for grooves, cracks, burrs or a sticky gate and clean it with warm water if needed.
Treat it as life-support gear: follow the manufacturer's instructions, check it before every climb, and retire it after a hard fall, a drop onto a hard surface, or any damage you can't explain. Use it within an ANSI Z133 program and only after proper training.
Keep a log of when each carabiner went into service and retire any that have taken a hard fall or been dropped from height onto a hard surface.

For life-support connections on a climbing system, most arborists choose an auto-locking gate such as TRIACT-LOCK.
It works for many hitch setups, but an HMS gives more room for wide hitches and multiple ropes.
