Compact pear-shaped auto-locking carabiner for small hardware.
The ISC Mini HMS carabiner is a compact pear-shaped connector with an auto-locking gate. It suits places on the saddle where a full-size HMS is bulky, such as hitch cords, micro pulleys, and small devices.
A pear-shaped HMS carabiner has a wide top end that lets a rope or several eyes sit side by side. The mini version keeps that shape in a smaller, lighter package, which helps when you are building a compact hitch-and-pulley setup or want less metal hanging off the bridge.
Small does not mean weaker in every direction, but it does mean less room. Check that whatever you clip in sits without crowding the gate and that the gate still closes and locks fully once everything is loaded.
Before each climb, open the gate and let it snap shut. It should close fully and lock on its own without sticking. Look for cracks, sharp edges, grooves worn by rope, and deformation at the nose or hinge. Sap and grit are the usual cause of a lazy gate, so rinse and dry the carabiner and keep the gate mechanism clean.
Retire any carabiner that has been dropped from height onto a hard surface, shock loaded, or shows wear you cannot explain. Read the markings on the spine and confirm they meet what your system needs. Life-support gear must meet the applicable standard (ANSI Z133 and the manufacturer's instructions), be inspected before every climb, and be used only by trained climbers. It refers to the pear shape originally designed for the Munter hitch. The wide end gives rope and eyes room to sit side by side.
