A large-opening auto-locker with an ANSI gate rating for demanding connections.
The DMM Klettersteig ANSI gate-rated carabiner combines a wide gate opening with a gate strength rated to ANSI requirements. That makes it a good fit where a carabiner might be loaded against the gate or needs to clip large anchors and lanyard rings.
Arborists sometimes work in places where a carabiner can roll against a limb or a ring. A gate rated to ANSI requirements gives extra margin in those cases. The large opening also makes it easy to clip around a wide lanyard ring, a big eye splice or an anchor sling.
Because it is large, the Klettersteig is not the best pick for every job on your saddle. Use it where the size and gate strength matter, such as lanyard ends or anchors, and use smaller connectors for hitches and devices where weight and space are tight.
Check the strengths stamped on the spine and gate to confirm it meets your employer's requirements. Compare it with our other auto-locking carabiners.
Open and release the gate several times to make sure it closes and locks on its own. Look for cracks, grooves, burrs or corrosion and keep it clean of grit and sap.
Treat it as life-support gear: follow the manufacturer's instructions, check it before every climb, and retire it after a hard fall, a drop onto a hard surface, or any damage you can't explain. Use it within an ANSI Z133 program and only after proper training.
Store it with the rest of your climbing hardware, clean and dry, and away from chemicals.

It means the gate is rated to an ANSI fall protection requirement for gate strength. Check the markings for the exact standard and values.
It is larger than a typical hitch carabiner, so many climbers use it on lanyards or anchors.
