ClimbingRiggingPro grade

The DMM Boa Locksafe gate carabiner is a large D-shaped connector with DMM's auto-locking Locksafe gate. Its roomy basket makes it a good anchor or master carabiner when you need to clip several things at once.

When you need a bigger carabiner

A small connector fills up fast once you add a sling, a pulley and a rope eye. The Boa gives you space to clip several items without crowding the gate. Arborists use it as a master carabiner on an anchor, for connecting thick slings, or anywhere a standard D feels tight.

The Boa also makes a good choice when you want one carabiner to collect several anchor legs or slings at a single point. Keep the connections tidy so nothing crosses over the gate, and check the whole anchor before you load it.

The Locksafe gate opens with a deliberate motion and locks on its own when released. Compare it with our other auto-locking carabiners.

Avoid multi-direction loading

Even a big carabiner should be loaded along its spine. Avoid three-way loading and keep loads off the gate.

Treat it as life-support gear: follow the manufacturer's instructions, check it before every climb, and retire it after a hard fall, a drop onto a hard surface, or any damage you can't explain. Use it within an ANSI Z133 program and only after proper training.

Keep track of how long it has been in service and how hard it has been used. Anchor carabiners take repeated loads, and wear can build up faster than on a carabiner that only sees occasional use.
