GroundMaintenance

The Husqvarna 525LK is the split-shaft combi version of the Husqvarna 525 trimmer, pairing a light 25.4 cc engine with a coupling that accepts other combi attachments. Crews get a commercial string trimmer that can also run an edger, hedge trimmer, or pole saw.

The Husqvarna 525 family

Husqvarna's 525 series covers a group of light commercial trimmers built around the same 25.4 cc engine. The 525L has a fixed straight shaft, and the 525LK adds a split shaft so the lower half can be swapped for other attachments. If you are looking for a Husqvarna 525 weed eater that can do more than trim, the LK is the one to look at.

The engine is light enough to carry for long stretches without wearing you out, yet strong enough for heavy grass and weeds around a job site.

The combi coupling is quick to use. Loosen the knob, press the release, and slide the attachment out; slide the next one in until it locks, then tighten. There are no tools needed, so switching from trimming to edging takes less than a minute on site.

Searches for Husqvarna 525 and 525 Husqvarna usually land on one of these two models, so it pays to check which shaft you are getting before you order.

Attachments that earn their keep

For tree crews, the pole saw attachment is the obvious add-on: it lets a ground worker clear low limbs, raise canopies over sidewalks, and cut small storm damage without pulling out a separate pole saw engine. An edger attachment cleans up hardscape after stump grinding, and a hedge trimmer attachment handles shrub work that often comes up on residential jobs.

Each attachment snaps onto the same coupling, so you carry one engine and several lightweight shafts. Check that each attachment is listed as compatible with the 525LK coupling before buying.

Combi units also simplify maintenance. You only have one engine to service, one air filter to clean, and one spark plug to replace, instead of a separate engine for every tool. That is a real saving for small crews and owner-operators.

Think about storage too. Attachments are easy to lose or damage loose in a truck bed. A simple rack or tube keeps them clean and protects the drive shafts and couplings.

Keeping it running

Mix fuel fresh at the ratio in the manual and use it within a few weeks, or add stabilizer. Clean the air filter often on dusty jobs and keep the coupling free of grit so attachments seat and lock fully. Replace the trimmer line with the size Husqvarna recommends for the head.

Wear eye and hearing protection, long pants, and boots. When running a pole saw attachment, also wear a helmet and stay out from under the limb you are cutting. Compare it with the larger Husqvarna 330LK if you need more power.

Check the shaft coupling and the drive shaft splines from time to time. Worn or damaged splines cause slipping and vibration. Replace the trimmer head eyelets as they wear, and keep the cutting attachment guard in place; it limits how far debris is thrown and keeps line at the right length.
