A tough plastic felling wedge that every sawyer should carry in the back pocket.
K&H felling wedges are tough plastic wedges for lifting trees past center and keeping kerfs open while bucking. The red head makes them easy to find in sawdust and leaves.
Set a wedge behind the bar as soon as there is room during the back cut so the kerf cannot close on the saw. Driving it in lifts the tree toward the face and helps a near-balanced tree go the direction you planned. When bucking, a wedge keeps the cut open so the bar does not pinch.
Use plastic wedges only. Steel wedges and a running chain are a dangerous combination.
K&H wedges are made of tough plastic that will not ruin your chain if you clip one with the saw. The red head makes them easy to find in sawdust and leaves after a felling cut.
Drive wedges with an axe or felling hammer, not the saw. Stack two for more lift, and carry at least two or three of different sizes. Replace wedges with cracked or mushroomed heads. Wedges cannot fix a bad face cut or a heavy back-leaner; for those, plan a pull line or get help. Keep them with your Husqvarna chainsaw wrench and files, and see more in our wedges section.
Clean sap and dirt off wedges at the end of the day and keep them in a pouch on your belt or in a bucket on the truck. A missing wedge is usually found in the next pile of sawdust.

They help, but large or heavy-leaning trees often need several wedges, larger sizes or a pull line.
Yes, with the poll of an axe or a felling hammer. Replace the wedge when the head mushrooms.
