ClimbingPro grade

The Splice Shop soft canopy anchor is a rope-based anchor for SRS climbers who want a light, packable way to set a canopy tie-in. Being soft, it protects the bark and weighs much less than a hardware-heavy setup.

How a soft canopy anchor is used

In SRS, your rope is fixed at an anchor rather than running over a branch and back to you. A soft canopy anchor wraps the tie-in limb and gives your rope a defined, protected attachment point, which reduces friction wear on the bark and keeps the rope from sawing into the union.

It is a light option for climbers who want to keep their kit simple. Compare other friction savers and anchors if you want a hardware-based setup.

Soft anchors pair well with a light SRS kit when you are moving between trees or working a large canopy. Because they are rope rather than metal, they also pack small and add little weight to the bag. Many climbers carry one alongside a hardware anchor so they can choose the right setup for each tree.

Choosing the anchor and inspecting it

Every SRS anchor depends on a sound tie-in point; assess the limb and union carefully before you commit, and follow the manufacturer's instructions for setup and any retrieval method.

Inspect the rope, splices, and any hardware for cuts, glazing, and wear before every climb. Life-support gear must meet the applicable standard and the manufacturer's instructions, be inspected before every climb, and be used only by trained climbers working to ANSI Z133.
