SafetyBucketPro grade

The Petzl Avao Fast international version is a full-body harness for fall arrest, work positioning and suspension, with FAST automatic buckles that make it quick to put on. The international version is built to the certifications used outside North America, so check that it suits your jurisdiction.

Where it fits in tree work

Tree climbers usually work from a saddle, but a full-body harness comes into play in aerial lifts, on utility jobs, for rope access and anywhere fall arrest is required. The Avao Fast gives fall arrest attachment points along with positioning and suspension, and the FAST buckles let you get in and out without rethreading.

Petzl sells the Avao in different versions for different markets. The international version carries the certifications used outside North America, which may not be what your employer or local rules require. Compare options in fall protection.

Buckle style is one of the main selling points. FAST buckles open and close quickly with gloves on, so a worker getting in and out of a lift several times a day does not have to rethread straps every time, and the harness stays adjusted between uses.

Fit, inspection and training

Size the harness to your body and work clothing, adjust it fully, and hang test it before work. Use the attachment points only for the purposes Petzl specifies, and pair it with connectors and lanyards suited to fall arrest.

Inspect webbing, stitching, buckles and attachment points before each use and keep a record. Retire it after a fall arrest or when inspection finds damage. Fall protection must follow the manufacturer's instructions and the rules for your work, including ANSI Z133 for tree work, and users must be trained.

Store the harness clean and dry, out of sunlight and away from fuel, oil and solvents, which can weaken webbing without obvious signs.
