ClimbingSafetyPro grade

The Petzl ASTRO BOD FAST is a full-body harness built for rope access and work at height, with FAST automatic buckles and an integrated CROLL chest ascender. This is the international version of the Petzl Astro, labeled for markets outside North America.

What it is built for

Tree work and rope access overlap more than they used to, especially on SRT ascents, rescue setups and crane jobs. The Petzl Astro harness brings rope access features to that work: a sit harness and chest harness combined, a built-in chest ascender for efficient rope climbing, and fall-arrest attachment points.

FAST buckles let you get in and out without rethreading, which helps on long days and in cold weather.

For tree crews, the Petzl Astro is most useful as a dedicated rescue or SRT harness, or for crane and structure work where full-body fall arrest is required.

It is a heavier, more involved setup than a saddle, so plan who on the crew will use it and train them on it.

International vs ANSI versions

Petzl makes the ASTRO BOD FAST in versions labeled for different markets. Before you buy, confirm which version your employer, client or jurisdiction requires and check the markings on the harness itself. Use it only within the uses listed in the instructions.

Inspect webbing, stitching, buckles and the ascender before every use. Life-support gear must meet the applicable standard and be used per ANSI Z133 and Petzl's instructions, by trained users. See related fall protection gear.

Check that the CROLL teeth are clean and the cam springs back freely. Replace worn parts or the harness as Petzl directs.
