Safety

The BloodStopper gauze kit is a blood stopper bandage that combines a thick gauze pad with built-in wraps, so you can get pressure on a bleeding wound fast with one set of hands. It belongs in every truck first-aid kit.

Why it belongs on the truck

Saw cuts, hand-saw slips and chipper injuries can bleed hard and fast. A blood stopper bandage lets one person put a thick pad on the wound and hold it with the attached wraps, which frees their hands to call for help or manage the scene.

They are cheap and small, so keep several in each truck and one in your climbing kit.

Every crew member should know where the first-aid kit is, and it should be in the same place in every truck. When someone is bleeding, nobody should be searching through a cab.

Pair compress bandages with a tourniquet, gloves and a basic trauma kit so you can handle a range of injuries.

Check the kit after every job where it was opened, and restock right away.

Know its limits

A compress bandage is for bleeding that firm pressure can control. Severe limb bleeding may need a tourniquet, and any serious injury needs emergency services. Get first-aid and bleeding-control training so you know what to use when.

Check expiration and packaging regularly and restock after use.

Practice applying one in a training session so it is not the first time when it matters. Replace any bandage whose packaging is damaged or wet.
