Safety

A blood stopper kit puts bleeding control supplies on your body, in a pouch that clips to a climbing saddle or work belt. Chainsaw cuts bleed fast, and a kit within reach can save the minutes it takes to get to the truck.

Why carry it on your body

A deep cut from a chainsaw or hand saw can bleed dangerously in minutes. A kit in the truck is not much use to a climber 60 feet up or a ground worker at the far end of a lot. Carrying the kit on your saddle or belt means you, or the person next to you, can start bleeding control right away.

Buckingham also sells the kit in green, which is the same idea in another color. See trauma kits and larger first aid supplies in our first aid section.

Ground workers benefit too. The person running the chipper or bucking on the ground is just as exposed to saw cuts, and a kit on their belt is faster than running to the truck.

Training and upkeep

Supplies only help if someone knows how to use them. Make sure everyone on the crew has current first aid training that covers severe bleeding, and that the crew has a plan for aerial rescue and calling for help.

Check the kit regularly. Replace anything that is used, wet, torn, or past its date, and make sure the pouch closure still holds. Keep the kit in the same place on every saddle so anyone can find it fast.
