Professional 36 V top-handle saw for trained climbers working aloft.
The T540iXP is the Husqvarna battery chainsaw built for arborists: a 36 V top-handle saw designed for pruning and dismantling work in the tree. This kit pairs the saw with battery power so a climber can go up without fuel, a pull cord or exhaust fumes.
Top-handle saws are made for one job: cutting in the tree by a trained arborist who is tied in and in a secure work position. The compact layout lets a climber handle the saw close to the body in tight spots. That same layout makes them unsafe for general ground use by untrained users, and ANSI Z133 and manufacturer instructions limit how they should be used. If you are not a trained climber, buy a rear-handle saw.
For working arborists, the T540iXP brings battery power to the canopy. It is one of the most popular battery top-handle saws on tree crews and a favorite for pruning, crown work and small dismantling cuts.
Pulling a cold gas top-handle in the tree is a nuisance at best. A battery saw starts with a trigger every time. There is no fuel to spill on your gear, no exhaust in your face in a tight crown and much less noise for you, the ground crew and the neighbors. Between cuts the chain stops and the saw is silent, which makes communication with the ground easier.
The trade-off is runtime and top-end power on big wood. For heavy dismantling with large cuts, many climbers still send a gas saw up. For pruning, deadwooding and everyday climbing work, a battery top-handle covers most of the day with a battery swap or two.
Battery saws also need less routine care. There is no carburetor to tune, no spark plug, no air filter to clog with sawdust and no fuel to go stale. Keep the chain sharp, the bar oiled and the battery contacts clean, and the saw is ready to go.
The saw runs on Husqvarna's 36 V BLi batteries, shared with their other battery tools. Larger batteries run longer but add weight on your saddle, so many climbers use a mid-size pack for balance. Keep a fresh battery on the ground and send it up in a bag when needed. A Husqvarna QC500 quick charger keeps the rotation moving on long days.
Kit contents vary by seller. Check the listing to see which battery, which charger and which bar and chain are included before comparing prices.
Remember that the saw still needs bar and chain oil. Check the oil level every time you swap a battery so the bar never runs dry aloft.
Always secure the saw to your saddle with a saw lanyard. Cut with two hands whenever possible and keep the chain brake engaged when you move. Plan each cut so the saw and your lifeline are never in the same path. Your climbing system, including rope and saddle, must meet the applicable standard and be inspected before every climb.
Wear a helmet with eye and hearing protection, cut-resistant gloves where appropriate and saw protection for your legs. Get trained by a qualified arborist before using a top-handle saw aloft.
Keep the chain sharp. A dull chain makes any saw grab and kick, and a battery saw with a dull chain also drains the battery faster. Many climbers touch up the chain at every battery change.

No. Top-handle saws are designed for trained arborists working in trees. For ground use, choose a rear-handle saw.
It depends on the battery size, the wood and how you cut. Most climbers carry at least one spare battery for a full day.
It uses Husqvarna's 36 V BLi batteries. Check the manual for the recommended battery models.
It is commonly run with a 12 or 14 in bar. Check the kit listing for the bar and chain included.
