GroundMaintenancePro grade

This 7-1/4 x 4-1/2 x 1/2 chipper knife is a replacement blade for brush chippers that take a knife of that size. Sharp knives pull brush in faster, make cleaner chips, and put less strain on the engine and the feed system.

Confirm the fit

Size is only part of the match. Bolt hole count, spacing, and the bevel angle also have to fit your chipper. Compare against your machine manual or an old knife before ordering. Other sizes are in our chipper knives section.

Change knives as a set so the disc or drum stays balanced, and keep the old ones for regrinding.

Knife life depends on what goes through the chipper. Clean limbs are easy on edges, while sandy brush, root balls, and stems with hidden nails or wire chip them fast. Rake out dirt and check for metal before feeding.

Changing knives safely

Shut the chipper down, remove the key, and wait for the disc or drum to stop completely. Lock it out the way the manufacturer specifies before reaching in. Wear cut-resistant gloves when handling knives.

Torque the bolts to spec, use new hardware when the manual calls for it, and check the anvil gap after a knife change. Dull knives make the chipper work harder and throw more long stringy material.

Keep a spare set in the truck. When you swap, mark the dull set and send it out for regrinding, so you always have a sharp set ready. Check the bolts and the knife seat for damage each time.
