An energy absorbing lanyard with a soft eye that girth hitches to your harness.
The Safewaze energy absorbing lanyard with soft eye uses a sewn loop on one end instead of a hook, so it can be girth hitched to a harness or anchor. It is designed to limit forces on your body if you fall from an aerial lift.
A soft eye is a sewn loop that you girth hitch to a harness attachment or anchor. It removes one metal connector from the system, which keeps the lanyard lighter and lower profile. The energy absorber tears out in a fall to limit the load on your body and the anchor.
Check how your harness and anchor accept a soft eye before ordering. Related gear is in aerial lift fall arrest.
Some workers prefer soft eye lanyards because they cannot be accidentally unclipped from the harness end, and there is less metal against the back. They are also lighter. The tradeoff is that changing a girth-hitched lanyard takes a little longer than unclipping a snap hook.
Connect only as Safewaze's instructions describe, and check required fall clearance, since an absorber needs room to deploy. Follow the lift maker's anchor instructions and your fall protection program.
Inspect the webbing, soft eye, stitching, absorber pack and snap hook before each use. Remove the lanyard from service after a fall or if it shows damage. Users need fall protection training.
Store the lanyard clean and dry and keep it out of sunlight. Do not tie knots in it or wrap it around sharp edges.
