BucketSafety

The FS-FLEX 285 Pro is a full-body fall protection harness with hip D-rings, suited to aerial lift and bucket truck work. The dorsal connection handles fall arrest, while the hip D-rings give you positioning options.

Harness setup for the bucket

In an aerial lift, the harness connects to the boom's anchor with a lanyard sized to keep you in the bucket. The dorsal D-ring is the fall-arrest point. Hip D-rings are for work positioning, not for arresting a fall.

Adjust the leg and chest straps so the harness is snug with your normal work clothes on, and make sure the dorsal ring sits between the shoulder blades.

Arborists who work from a bucket truck still need a proper fall protection harness, even when they also climb with a tree saddle on other jobs. Keep the two systems separate and know which one the job calls for. Size the harness carefully, because a harness that is too loose can let you slip out or slide during a fall.

Inspection and care

Check webbing, stitching, buckles, and every D-ring before each shift. Take any harness out of service after a fall or if you find cuts, burns, or chemical damage. Store it clean and dry, out of sunlight.

Write the harness's first-use date in your inspection log, and follow the manufacturer's guidance on service life. A competent person should inspect the harness at the interval your safety program requires.

See other fall arrest gear for aerial lifts. Fall protection must meet the applicable standard and the manufacturer's instructions, be inspected before every shift, and be used only by workers trained on it.
