ClimbingPro grade

The CAMP Turbofoot Evo is a foot ascender that straps to your boot and grabs the rope as you step, so your legs do most of the work on an SRT ascent. It is a popular way for tree climbers to add a step to a rope-walking or frog system.

Why climbers add a foot ascender

Legs are much stronger than arms. A foot ascender lets you stand up on the rope with each step instead of pulling yourself up hand over hand, which makes long access climbs much less tiring.

It also helps tend the rope below you as you climb, so the system runs cleaner. Most climbers pair it with a handled ascender above and a hitch or device on the saddle.

Many climbers find a foot ascender changes how far they can climb in a day, especially on tall trees or when they are going up and down several times for big pruning jobs.

Fit and safety

Strap it to your boot so it sits snug, and practice stepping close to the ground until your rhythm is smooth. See more foot ascenders and foot loops.

A foot ascender is a climbing aid, not a backup. Your primary life-support connection must remain on your saddle. Check CAMP's instructions for rope range and inspect the cam and straps often. Life-support gear must meet the applicable standard, follow ANSI Z133 and the manufacturer's instructions, and be inspected before every climb. Get trained before you rely on it.

Keep the cam teeth clean of mud and sap, and check the straps and buckles for wear and fraying.
