CT Quick Tree Spur-Mounted Ascender

The CT Quick Tree spur-mounted ascender from Climbing Technology lets you use foot power on a rope while wearing climbing spurs. On removals, that means you can ascend a line quickly and still be set up to spur the trunk.

Why mount on a spur

Standard foot ascenders fit on a boot, which can clash with spur straps. A spur-mounted ascender sits on the spur itself, so you get both: a quick rope ascent and spurs on for the removal.

Spurs are for removals only, not for pruning live trees. Use this device where spurs are appropriate. Compare foot ascenders in foot ascenders and foot loops.

On large removals with a tall first limb, a spur-mounted ascender gets you to your work position faster than spurring all the way. Once there, you can switch to spurring and flipline work as the removal goes.

Setup and inspection

Mount it following Climbing Technology's instructions and check compatibility with your spur model. Practice the rope ascent low first.

The ascender is an ascent aid only. Life-support gear must meet the applicable standard (ANSI Z133 and the manufacturer's instructions), be inspected before every use, and be used only by trained climbers. Check the cam, spring and mounting hardware before every climb.

Keep the cam and spring clean of bark and sap, which can reduce grip. Check that the mounting hardware has not loosened after a day on spurs, and inspect the spur straps and pads too.
