A versatile sling with a ring for anchors, redirects, and false crotches.
A multi-purpose ring sling is a simple loop with a ring that wraps a stem or limb to make a quick anchor, redirect, or false crotch. It earns its spot in the gear bag on almost every job.
Choke the sling around a sound limb and you have an instant redirect to keep your line out of a bad crotch, or a false crotch that protects the bark. The ring gives the rope a smooth surface and makes it easier to retrieve the sling from the ground in some setups.
Climbers also use one to set a temporary anchor while repositioning, or to hang a bag or saw out of the way.
Choose the sling length to suit the stems you usually work around. A short sling suits small limbs and keeps the ring close; a longer one wraps bigger wood and gives you room to choke it neatly. Many climbers carry two lengths so they are not forced to compromise on a tight union.
Only use a sling rated for the job you are giving it, and keep life-support uses separate from general rigging. Check the sling and ring for cuts, wear, and heat damage before every use, and never put a ring sling in a running rigging load it is not designed for.
See our other eye-and-eye cords and slings. Life-support gear must meet the applicable standard (ANSI Z133 and the manufacturer's instructions), be inspected before every use, and be used only by trained climbers.

Yes, that is a common use. Choose one rated for life support and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Not quite. A friction saver usually has two rings or a ring and pulley built for an adjustable or retrievable setup. A ring sling is simpler.
