ClimbingPro grade

These Buckingham climbing spikes are steel climbers with lower straps, a base set for climbers who want to choose their own upper pads. It is a practical starting point for Buckingham climbing gear without paying for pads you might replace.

A base set you can build on

Not everyone wants the same upper. Some climbers swear by wide Big Buck pads, others prefer T-pads or steel support uppers. This set gives you steel Buckingham climbers with lower straps so you can add the pads that fit your leg and your work.

Steel shanks handle rough treatment in the truck and on the job. Browse climber pads to finish the set.

Buying the climbers on their own also makes sense if you already have good pads from a retired set. Swap them across, fit new lower straps if needed, and you have a working pair of Buckingham climbing spikes for less than a complete new set.

Before you climb

You need upper pads and straps fitted before these climbers go on your legs. Set shank length just below the bend of the knee and wear stiff boots with a steel shank. Climbing spurs are part of your fall-protection system. Inspect gaffs, shanks, straps and pads before every climb, follow the manufacturer's instructions and ANSI Z133, and get trained before you climb on spikes. Use spurs for removals only, not for pruning.

Keep gaffs sharp along the factory bevel and replace them when they get short or damaged.

Store them with gaff guards on so the points stay sharp and do not damage rope or other gear in the truck.
