ClimbingBucketSafety

The Petzl Vertex helmet is a work-at-height helmet built for climbing and rope access, with a six-point textile suspension, an adjustable chin strap, and slots for a visor, ear muffs, and headlamp. It is one of the most common climbing helmets on tree crews.

Why climbers choose the Vertex

A climbing helmet gets worn all day, so comfort decides whether it stays on your head. The Vertex sits low and stable, with a suspension that spreads the weight and a chin strap that keeps it on when you lean, swing, or look up into the canopy. Fit adjusts quickly, which helps when you add or take off a beanie as the day warms up.

Accessory slots let you build it into a full setup: a mesh or clear visor, ear muffs, and a headlamp for early starts or storm work. See other models in our helmets section.

Bright colors help the ground crew track the climber in the canopy, which matters when wood is coming down and everyone needs to know where the climber is.

Fit, standards, and replacement

Adjust the headband so the helmet sits level and does not rock, then snug the chin strap. Check the label for the standards your version meets, and make sure it fits what ANSI Z133 and your employer require for climbing and aerial work.

Inspect the shell, suspension, and strap before each use. Replace the helmet after a significant impact even if you see no damage, and follow Petzl's guidance on service life. Keep it out of the sun on the dash and away from solvents.
