FellingGroundSafety

The Husqvarna Functional helmet is a forestry helmet system with a hard shell, mesh face visor, and ear muffs, fitted with a wheel ratchet for quick sizing. It suits saw work on the ground: felling, bucking, and limbing.

Built for ground saw work

Running a saw on the ground means three hazards at once: falling wood, flying chips, and noise. A forestry helmet system like the Husqvarna Functional handles all three with one piece of kit. The visor flips down for cutting and up for talking, and the ear muffs swing out of the way when the saw is off.

The wheel ratchet lets you tighten or loosen the fit with gloves on, which helps when switching between a beanie in winter and a bare head in summer. Compare other helmets in our helmets section.

It is a good fit for ground workers on a tree crew and for homeowners who run a saw occasionally. Everything is in one package, so there is no guessing about which visor or ear muffs fit the shell.

Ground helmet vs climbing helmet

This is a forestry helmet, not a climbing helmet. Climbing helmets have a chin strap system designed to keep the helmet on in a fall and are tested for different impacts. If you climb or work from a lift, use a helmet rated for that work, as ANSI Z133 and your employer require.

Check the helmet's markings for the standards it meets, and replace the shell after a heavy impact or at the age the maker recommends. A mesh visor protects from chips but is not safety eyewear, so wear rated glasses too.
