Climbing

The Weaver throw line storage bag in medium gives your throw line a dedicated home, so it flakes out cleanly instead of turning into a snarl in the truck. It is sized for a typical throw line with room to stuff it quickly between throws.

Why throw line needs its own storage

A medium throw line bag is the everyday size: big enough to stuff a full throw line quickly between attempts without fussing, small enough to toss in a gear bag. The open top lets you feed line in by the handful while you watch the canopy, then throw again straight from the bag.

Thin throw line tangles faster than anything else in the truck. A loose pile turns into a bird's nest the moment you try to throw from it, and untangling it eats time at the start of every job. Keeping the line in a container that opens wide and lets it flake out cleanly is the easiest fix. Compare options in our gear storage section.

Throwing from it and caring for it

Feed the line in loosely rather than wrapping it, and keep the end tied off inside so it cannot be pulled away. Set the bag on the ground a step back from where you throw so the line peels off the top without catching your feet or brush.

Keep throw line dry and out of the sun between jobs, and away from fuel and bar oil. Before setting a climbing line, check the throw line and weight for cuts or damage, and keep the area under the throw clear of people.

Many climbers carry their throw weight in the bag tied to the line, so the whole kit comes out in one grab. Keep the weight on top so it is ready to throw.
