A small saddle bag for the bits and pieces a climber needs aloft.
The Weaver ditty bag is a small pouch that hangs from your saddle so spare hitch cord, a file, tape, and other small items stay with you in the tree. It keeps loose items off your gear loops and out of the drop zone.
Every climber carries a few things that do not belong on a carabiner: a spare split tail, a chainsaw file, flagging tape, a marker, a granola bar. Stuffed into pockets they fall out; clipped loose they snag. A ditty bag on the saddle keeps them closed in and easy to find.
It also cuts down on dropped items. Anything that falls from the canopy is a hazard to the ground crew. See other saddle bags and storage in our gear storage section.
Ditty bags are cheap enough that many climbers run two: one for spares such as hitch cord and a small pulley, and one for personal items. That keeps the spares clean and easy to find in a hurry, even with gloves on and a saw in the other hand.
Hang the ditty bag from a gear loop, not a life-support attachment point, and keep it clear of your bridge, lanyard, and saw. Keep the load light; heavy items swinging on the saddle are tiring and get in the way.
Consider keeping a small first aid kit in it if your saddle does not already carry one. Empty and dry it out now and then so sap, sawdust, and moisture do not build up.

No. Keep it on a gear loop so nothing interferes with your life-support connections.
