ClimbingPro grade

The Shembiner XL chainsaw hook mounts on your saddle and gives a top-handle saw a dedicated place to hang between cuts. The XL size leaves room for larger saw lanyard rings and handles than the standard hook.

A better place for the saw

Hanging a top-handle saw from a general gear loop is awkward and wears the loop out. A Shembiner hook gives the saw its own spot, so you can park it with one hand and reach for the hand saw or adjust your lanyard without fumbling.

The XL is a good choice if your saw lanyard uses a larger ring or you hang the saw by the handle. If you need a different size, compare the rest of our saddle storage options.

Mounting and safety

Mount it on the side of the saddle where the saw hangs clear of your climbing line and lanyard and does not swing into your legs. Practice clipping it on the ground until it is automatic. Keep the saw on a saw lanyard as well, so a missed clip does not send it to the ground crew.

This hook is a storage accessory. Never use it for life support or rigging. Check it for cracks and wear, and use a chainsaw aloft only with training and in line with ANSI Z133.

Look the hook over when you inspect the rest of your saddle hardware. A bent or cracked hook can drop the saw without warning, and replacement is cheap compared to a damaged saw or an injury on the ground.
