A foot loop that lets your legs help on the climb up the rope.
The Weaver foot loop ascender gives you a foot loop to push against while ascending, so your legs do more of the lifting. It is a simple add-on for climbers who want an easier ascent on a doubled or single rope.
A foot loop attached to a hand ascender lets you stand up in the loop, then slide your hitch or tend your system as you rise. It turns a hand-over-hand climb into a stand-and-sit rhythm that is much easier on the arms, especially on long first pitches.
A foot loop also helps with getting back on the rope after a rest or a repositioning, and it makes it easier to stand up and reach a high branch union. Keep it short enough that you can step into it without swinging your leg out wide.
Adjust the loop so you can stand comfortably with the ascender at about head height. See our foot ascenders and foot loops for other options.
A foot loop is an aid, not a life-support connection. Stay tied in to your primary climbing system at all times.
Inspect the loop and stitching before each climb and replace it if worn or cut. Learn your ascent system low and slow with an experienced climber, and follow your crew's procedures under ANSI Z133.
Check the foot loop length again whenever you change boots or switch between climbing systems, since a small change in setup can make the loop too long or too short to use comfortably.

Check the listing. Foot loops are often sold on their own to pair with an ascender you already own.
Foot loops are used with both. The rest of your system must be set up correctly for the technique.
