Climbing

The Reecoil foot loop gives you a step to stand in when ascending a rope with a hand ascender. It is a simple way to add leg power to an SRS climb without a full mechanical foot setup.

How a foot loop helps

Clip the foot loop to your hand ascender, step into it, and stand up. Then slide your hitch or chest device up and repeat. Your legs do the heavy lifting instead of your arms.

Foot loops are light and quick to deploy, which makes them handy for occasional SRS climbs or as a backup. Compare other options in foot ascenders and foot loops.

A foot loop is also a useful rescue and self-rescue tool, since it lets you stand and take weight off your system to clear a problem. Many climbers keep one clipped to their saddle for that reason alone.

Sizing and inspection

Adjust the length so you can stand comfortably with the hand ascender at about face height. Practice the rhythm low to the ground.

A foot loop is an ascent aid, not your life-support connection. Life-support gear must meet the applicable standard (ANSI Z133 and the manufacturer's instructions), be inspected before every use, and be used only by trained climbers. Check the webbing and stitching for wear before each climb.

Keep the foot loop clean and dry, and store it away from sun, heat and chemicals. Replace it if the webbing fades, stiffens or shows cuts, even if the stitching still looks good.
